On November 6th, the Wolves won the second round of the State Championship, defeating the Rivermill Jaguars 2-1. It was a tough game, having to pull out Senior Atanas Milchev during the second half.
“I thought I was dying,” said Milchev. “I ate a banana before the game, but still got cramps in both legs.”
The team is on their way to Buxton to play against the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes, luckily having tomorrow off from school to spend time as a team and recuperate.
“I think it’s a 5-hour drive,” said Captain Daniel Horil. “When their girls’ team played here, they didn’t get back home until two am.”
The team is seeded 5th in the bracket, so they will be playing the rest of their games away. For their last home game, the sideline was packed with students, cheering on the team the entire time.
“They did a really good job maintaining composure, especially when they were down a point,” said Junior Grace Wilson.
The 3rd round takes place tonight at 6 pm. We will have a full update later this week.
