This past Wednesday, May 6, the women’s soccer team celebrated their seniors at senior night on Briar Chapel field four. In the first half, the team was able to score a total of 7 goals against the Southern Wake Lions, helping them to mercy rule them within the second half.
“I’m really proud of the team as a whole for going undefeated in the regular season,” said #6 Paige Apolito (12). “I can’t wait to see our success continue in the state playoffs.”
All of the players got to play, including notable performances from all the seniors, who each played the whole game.
“Getting to play the whole game was really enjoyable and I really liked getting to play with the whole team,” said #11 Sarah Dalli (12). “But, there was this girl who kept pushing me and flopping, so the game was really stressful for me. I’m so thankful for everyone who was supporting me.”
After the game, the seniors were celebrated, and Coach Graeme Stewart chose to additionally acknowledge the whole team, focusing on their undefeated regular season.
“This team is ranked number 1 in 1A in the state! That is something that couldn’t have been given to them, it was earned,” said Stewart. “The algorithm on MaxPreps has them quite far ahead, so because of that, I would fall over if we’re not number one seed next week.”
The schedule for the championship is currently undecided, but because of how highly the team is ranked, it is likely to be a home game. Make sure to look out on the WCS athletics Instagram page for an update in the upcoming week!
